Trust in Relationships

Trust in Relationships

An important aspect in any relationship is trust.

There is a commonly held belief that once trust is gone in a relationship that it is doomed or must end. However, that is not completely true.

Trust is presents in all relationships and it can be earned.

The interesting thing about trust is that it is something that is ever present in all relationships and it is something that can be earned. For example, when you start a new relationship you generally will offer some measure of trust to the other person and you’re giving them the opportunity to earn your trust.

If your trust is ever diminished, damaged, or lost, it’s completely ok to offer the other person an opportunity to regain it. Another option is to move the relationship in a different direction or end it.

You are in the driver’s seat, to trust, to change, or to let go of a relationship.

In the past, I’ve used the loss of trust as an opportunity to end a relationship. I believed that once the trust was gone the relationship had to end. However, I have learned that I always have a choice in my relationships and that it’s ok for me to offer the other person an opportunity to earn it.

For example, I’ve offered an opportunity to regain trust when I’ve felt that all of the other aspects of a relationship were sound, balanced, and healthy. And, I’ve also been in relationships where the lack of trust has been a sign that a person is not a match for me. In those situations, I have either changed or ended those relationships.

Trust is a delicate thing. The next time your trust is lost I invite you to remember that you’re in the driver’s seat of your life and that you always have a choice in how you move through that experience.

This happened in our relation. Decided to try again. It was rewarding.
